Song of the Week – Paris Milkshake

Right, hold on to your hats because this is going to be MASSIVE. I’m thrilled to introduce you to Douglas Richards, Jamie Richards, Chris Jones, Tom Farren and Chris Newnham, also knows as Plastic Mermaids.

I was intrigued to listen to this band just from the name, but the music didn’t even come close to being average. After receiving a press release, I listened to their latest single ‘Paris Milkshake’ and I was absolutely blown away. The beautifully eerie vocals and soft surrounding instrumentals left me stunned into silence.

Having been already described as ‘cinematic’ and ‘gorgeously textural’, the difference with Plastic Mermaids is that they use instruments you hear less in most indie songs. For example, in ‘Paris Milkshake’ you can hear the beautiful string section being played as well as the cowbell and epic synths.

The video is equally beautiful, you can see each part of the song being put together as well as seeing the story behind the lyrics in the emotion of the performance. It’s a stunning video and it fits the song amazingly.

It’s my prediction that the uniqueness of this band will rocket them up the indie scales and in the next few months you’ll be hearing their name all over social media.
